On this page I would like to inform you about panic disorder and panic attacks and explain how hypnotherapy at my practice in Berlin-Mitte or as an online session can be right for you.
Panic attacks are episodes of intense fear that usually occur unpredictably. The symptoms include strong physical sensations such as a pounding heart, dizziness, sweating, shortness of breath, pressure or pain, experiences of dissociation, and fear of even stronger symptoms.
A panic disorder can also occur together with other anxiety conditions, such as agoraphobia or social anxiety.
People who are prone to anxiety, possibly triggered by experiences during childhood, can be susceptible to panic disorders. The mechanism and development of panic then often unfolds as follows: when certain physical symptoms appear, they are judged to be dangerous, although in most cases they are normal autonomic phenomena. Subconsciously they are associated with supposed danger. This can be a pounding heart or hyperventilation, for example.
Generally, however, these are entirely normal bodily reactions that are simply misinterpreted. Triggers can include stress, exhaustion, certain physical conditioning or medical causes. The misinterpretation then leads to even more fear, which in turn intensifies the symptoms, and a self-reinforcing vicious circle of fear, panic and bodily symptoms develops.
Within this cycle the symptoms are then observed ever more intensely and every occurrence is judged to be potentially dangerous, whereupon the fear and the symptoms increase again, and so on. Through this chain reaction the likelihood of another panic attack occurring actually increases still further.
The fears and physical symptoms that arise can be very distressing and can extend as far as the fear of going mad or of dying.
The central method in treating a susceptibility to panic is to break the fear-panic cycle, to change the interpretation of the physical experiences and at the same time to establish a way of living in which excitement, restlessness and relaxation are in healthy balance. Hypnotherapy according to Milton Erickson can offer excellent support in all of these areas.
A different way of relating to experiences of intense emotion or physical sensation soon sets in. What previously felt threatening and had to be avoided at all costs can now increasingly be welcomed and perceived as vital life energy.
Many clients with panic disorders have benefited from hypnotherapy within the framework of Leela Therapy in a remarkably short time.
Through deeply relaxing trances the neurological system also comes to rest, and the body’s self-healing powers and resources can take effect again. This in turn creates trust in one’s own capacities and paves the way to a lastingly dependable life without panic attacks.
Panic disorders not infrequently go hand in hand with low mood and a lack of drive. You can read about how hypnosis works in that case on the page about hypnosis for depression.
Your individual hypnotherapy following the Leela Therapy method in 3–8 individual sessions. Discounted package prices are available, or single appointments.
